People all over the world know about POKER  card games. But probably few people carefully calculate the sum of all the numbers in poker. The total number of 52 cards adds up to 364. Adding a Joker equals 365, which is the same as the number of days in a year. When two Jokers are added, it becomes 366 days in a leap year.

Almost every country claims that poker cards are their own invention. The French believe that poker cards evolved from tarot cards. The British claim to be the first country to mention the game of poker in all certified records.

The predecessor of poker is the French Tarot, which is simplified into 52 cards, so the suits and head cards are also the same. The American businessman added 2 Jokers from Germany, for a total of 54 cards. Some card games use Joker, some don't. For example, Tongits don't need Joker, and Rummy needs to use 2 Jokers.

Poker has a very unique charm. Let's learn more about Tongits go, the most popular card game in the Philippines and how this card game is different from other similar card games, such as Rummy!

Tongits and Rummy

Tongits can be said to be a combination of rummy, mahjong and pusoy.

Rummy is India's favorite card game. Tongits and Rummy are both card games and they have a lot in common. In order to win, players must find ways to make their playing cards into different small sets. By drawing and discarding cards, you can rearrange your hands and wait for a useful deck to appear in front of you. Whether it's Tongits or Rummy, sometimes in the process of playing cards in and out, they often lose the chance to win because they discard the wrong hand. Both require playing cards to be grouped into sets with three cards, such as three of a kind or a straight flush. If the card the player is waiting for is delayed, the player will consider unpacking the set. Frustratingly, the required playing cards are often taken after the set has been ungrouped. To win in both games, not only do you need to know the rules, but sometimes you also need a bit of luck to reduce the distance between yourself and victory.

Playing Tongits requires 3 players, not 2 or 4. The rummy is more flexible, at least only 2 players, and up to 6 players can play together. This is because Tongits used only one deck of cards and Rummy used two. Besides, Rummy uses jokers. Not only the joker, but at the start of the game, Rummy will randomly select a poker card as a wild card. The joker and wild cards can represent any card used to form impure sequences. In Tongits' rules, meld consists of 3 or more straight flushes; and the basic condition of rummy's announcement is that the player needs to have at least a set of 3 or 4 straight flush sets (no jokers or wilds). cards), plus a set of impure sequences. This means that a player must replace one of the cards with another card in a set of 3 or 4 straight flush sets to form an impure sequence.

Players, who are familiar with Tongits go, must ask when can jokers and wilds be used. They are the same, except for a straight flush, three playing cards of the same number and different suits can form a set. Why is there a special emphasis on different suits here? Although Tongits will not encounter three of the same suit, Rummy uses two decks of playing cards, so players have the opportunity to get two identical (same suit and same rank) playing cards. Pay special attention to the fact that playing cards of the same suit and the same rank cannot make a tripod with another playing card of the same number. At this time, we can use the joker or wild card to replace this playing card of the same suit and the same rank. In this way, a set can be formed.

When a Rummy player has a straight flush and an impure sequence, what's next? As with Tongits go, the player must continue to make a straight flush or three of a kind with the remaining cards. The difference is that these remaining sets can be grouped together using jokers and wilds.

After reading so many rules about Tongits and Rummy, I believe you must have a good understanding of the differences and similarities between them. Tongits Go and Gin Rummy

Tongits is much more similar to another rummy game called “Gin Rummy”

When there are only two players, not being able to play Tongits, you can choose Gin Rummy to play. Similar to Tongits, Gin Rummy starts playing with a deck of 52 cards. Neither of them needs jokers. A player is dealt 10 cards. The remaining cards are placed in the middle of the table as a pool of cards. At this time, turn over a card from the deck and place it next to the deck. If another player can make a set, that player can take the upturned card and then discard a card from his hand. If another player is unable to make a set with this turned-up card, that player may choose to pass.

The set of Tongits includes straight flush, three of a kind and four of a kind. Gin Rummy is assembled in the same way as Tongits' deck of cards. It is worth noting that the straight flush can only form JQK at most. There is no QKA.

When playing Gin Rummy, the hand is always 10 cards. Even if you can form a group after drawing cards, the group will not be exposed on the table. In the case of Tongits go, when a player takes the discarded cards of the previous player to form the meld, the meld must be exposed on the table. So players may have fewer and fewer cards in their hands with the number of rounds.

There is a slightly different winning condition being reached. Tongits can call DRAW as long as at least one meld of sets, not being connected by other players, is exposed on the table, whether it is a flush or three of a kind. On the other hand, Gin Rummy doesn't need to expose any set. Players only need to allocate sets in their own hands, at least 1 set of straight flush and 1 set of three of a kind or four of a kind, and the sum of the remaining poker points is less than 10, and they can call "knock". After calling "knock", the player can discard one more playing card and lay out his cards on the table.

At this time, the opponent player can match the cards with the cards revealed by the player who called "knock" to reduce the number of cards in his hand as much as possible. Because the sum of the hand points will affect the game points.

Tongits go and Gin Rummy calculate the sum of the remaining playing cards in a similar way. First let's look at the number of points each playing card represents. The face cards Jack, Queen, and King represent 10 points. Ace stands for 1 point. Other poker cards are scored according to the numbers on the cards.

We call these remaining cards "Deadwood". The sum of "Deadwood" points must be less than or equal to 10 to be called "knock".

When someone calls "knock", the opponent player may also reverse to win. For example, if your deadwood is 10 points, after the combination of the cards in your opponent's hand and the cards you exposed, and then the total points is less than 9, then the opponent will reverse the victory and get extra points. Or if your opponent is waiting to call “Gin”with very low points of deadwood, you will not win the gin rummy.

In addition to "knock" when playing Gin Rummy, lucky players have the opportunity to call "Gin". Same luck as Tongits go players being able to call “Tongits”. The concepts of "Gin" and "Tongits" are actually very similar. When a player's poker cards can form a set, and there are no extra cards, the player can call "GIN" on his own turn.

When the deck in hand can form 2 sets of 3 cards plus 1 set of 4 cards, you can call "Gin". Some people make up 2 sets, 1 set of straight flush plus 1 set of three of a kind or four of a kind or another straight flush. The more powerful person is a 10-card straight flush, and the player who can get it is a miracle.

After calling "Gin", discard the 11th card into the discard pile and reveal all the cards in your hand.
